Posters for all programmes
NZXMLTV obtains images for all programmes. These are either sourced from the data provider, The
Movies DB, IMDB, or are generated by NZXMLTV. We also prioritise portrait images as these have the
best compatability with most DVR software.
New to NZXMLTV 4.0, episode and background images are also included, following the updates to the
XMLTV specification.
For programmes where posters can't be found, NZXMLTV will generate channel-specific posters with
custom backgrounds, fonts and colours to fit with channel branding.
NZ-specific data sources
NZXMLTV has a range of NZ-specific data sources to obtain both the underlying schedules and the
programme metadata. Our current primary data sources are:
- Freeview
- Sky / Sky Go / Sky Sport Now
- TVNZ+
- ThreeNow
- MĀORI+
- Rova
- Trackside
- RNZ
- Rhema Media
Plex compatibility
NZXMLTV was originally designed for Plex and as such has all the optimisations needed for a good
Plex experience.
For example, NZXMLTV correctly differentiates new and repeated episodes, which programmes are movies
or
not, applies "original air dates", and will tag sports and teams to sporting events.
Additionally, TMDB series or movie IDs are supplied where available to enhance library
integration.
Finally, new to NZXMLTV 4.0, specific tags have been added to improve support for Jellyfin and
TVheadend clients.
Data Normalisation
NZXMLTV has a series of rules built up over the last 8 years to normalise and correct common errors
in the EPG data
For example, it will extract season and episode numbers from descriptions and remove unnecessary
prefixes from titles (e.g. 'All New' or 'Movie:')
Channel logos are also modified to provide versions that work well on dark backgrounds, where
the original is unsuitable.
New to NZXMLTV 4.0, resiliancy has been improved, so guide data will work even if a given source goes
offline or has gaps. Guide data is now also more consistent across files.
